The ISPOR Ethiopia Chapter is the national community of researchers, academics, clinicians, students, industry professionals, and policymakers advancing health economics and outcomes research (HEOR) and health technology assessment (HTA) in Ethiopia.
Established in July 2017, the chapter is part of the ISPOR Africa Network and affiliated with ISPOR — The Professional Society for Health Economics and Outcomes Research globally. We disseminate HEOR and HTA knowledge to members through annual scientific meetings, educational workshops, webinars, research collaboration, and patient-engagement activities.
Our members include professionals from academia, government, health technology assessment bodies, clinical practice, the pharmaceutical and medical-device industry, and the student community.
ISPOR — The Professional Society for Health Economics and Outcomes Research — is the leading global organisation for health economics and outcomes research and its use in healthcare decision-making. It publishes Value in Health, convenes international conferences and short courses, issues the Good Practices reports that set methodological standards for the field, and supports a worldwide network of regional chapters, consortia and special interest groups.
Ethiopia is one of nine chapters in ISPOR’s Africa region, alongside Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa and others. Chapters carry ISPOR’s mission into their own countries by advancing HEOR excellence regionally.

The ISPOR Ethiopia Chapter was founded in July 2017, making it one of the early ISPOR regional chapters on the African continent. It operates as part of the ISPOR Africa Network, which connects chapters across Africa to foster regional HEOR collaboration and capacity building.
From an initial membership of 64 at launch, the chapter grew to 102 members by 2018, spanning academia, government, clinical practice, industry, and student communities across Ethiopia.
In September 2018 the chapter established CORE — the Centre for Outcomes Research in Ethiopia — creating a dedicated infrastructure for high-quality outcomes research in the country.

The ISPOR Ethiopia Chapter operates under a formal constitution with elected leadership and defined term limits to ensure accountability and continuity.
The chapter is governed by an elected board comprising a President, President-elect, Secretary, Treasurer, and Directors responsible for Research & Publication, Event Planning & Programming, Membership, and Communication.
The board meets regularly to set strategy, oversee chapter activities, and maintain the relationship with ISPOR HQ and the Africa Network.
